Certified translations are required when presenting foreign documents (such as birth certificates or contracts) to Austrian public authorities (or the other way round).
A certified translation is a legally valid document only if it contains the translator’s certification phrase, official stamp and signature. Only certified translators are
allowed to issue such translations.
Should you need the translation for foreign public authorities, please ask them if you need a supplementary certification or an apostille in addition to the certified
translation.
It is recommended to use court interpreters for this task as they are required to meet statutory quality criteria and pursue continued professional development.
Court interpreters are particularly qualified and trustworthy as they are subject to strict requirements and possess highly specialised knowledge.
The designation “court interpreter” (allgemein beeideter und gerichtlich zertifizierter Dolmetscher) is legally protected, and certification is limited to five years (after which the
translator can re-certify if the requirements are still met).
Other translations basically cover all translations that don’t need to be certified. Depending on the subject of the text, they are general or
specialised.
Of course, I also offer non-certified translations and I’d be happy to help you expand into new markets and ensure you make the right impression on your foreign-language
audience.
I’m specialised in legal, marketing and tourism texts but also have experience in other fields such as life sciences or agriculture.
